Please ensure that your phone number and your Apple ID is selected in the “you can be reached” section. When you go to Settings Messages Send & Receive and If you see “Use your Apple ID for iMessage,” select it. Ensure that you sign in with the same Apple ID on your other devices (e.g., your Mac). You can use your Apple ID to: Automatically set up all of your Apple services when you set up a new device and sign in with your Apple ID. Keep your personal content up to date on all of your devices when you sign in to iCloud. Sign in to the iTunes, Books, and App Store to make purchases and access previous purchases. Tap your Apple ID (it will either be at the top or at the bottom) and select Sign Out. Toggle off iMessage (or FaceTime, if that's what's not working). Go to Wi-Fi in the Settings app and toggle Wi-Fi off and back on. Wait a few minutes, then toggle iMessage back on. Tap Send & Receive. Tap Use your Apple ID for iMessage. IMessage should be on (green) by default, but if the on/off slider next to it is set to off, tap the slider to turn iMessage back on. You may need to log in with your Apple ID at this point.

I have recently backed up my iPhone 6s through iCloud and restored that information to an iPhone 8 using iCloud, but when I did the backup, iMessage was not connected to iCloud. When I finished the set up on the iPhone 8, my number is being used on iMessage and not my Apple ID as well. I went to settings and turned iMessage on for iCloud but nothing happened so I tried going to settings>messages and tapped “use Apple ID for iMessage” but it did not respond to that command. Is there a way to fix this issue?
