The Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Mustang Shelby GT350 comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual but soon it may offer a dual-clutch transmission.
That’s according to Road & Track, citing evidence from a usually accurate source at Mustang6G. The magazine claims a DCT option for the Shelby GT350 isn’t 100 percent, though, as plans can change and the evidence may be outdated.
Furthermore, the Mustang is about to undergo a mid-cycle update and one of the planned changes is expected to be the availability of a 10-speed automatic that Ford developed with General Motors Company [NYSE:GM]. The 10-speeder has already appeared in the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and is said to shift quicker than Porsche’s DCT. It would be odd for Ford to engineer the Mustang for both the 10-speed and a DCT.
We should know soon as the updated Mustang is due in 2017, as a 2018 model. From spy shots of prototypes, we know the Ford icon will be receiving a few visual tweaks. We also know it will receive a new range-topper, likely to be called a Shelby GT500. We’ve heard this car might get a twin-turbocharged V-8 with well over 600 horsepower.
