Dropbox Not Showing Up In Finder

Posted on  by admin

Jun 26, 2019 Anything you add to Dropbox will automatically show up on all your computers, phones and even the Dropbox website — so you can access your stuff from anywhere. If you installed the Dropbox app on your PC, then you will now have a Dropbox folder in the navigation pane of File Explorer by default. If enabling Finder integration and relinking the account does not fix the issue, try deleting and reinstalling the Dropbox app. Open the Applications folder in Finder and drag the Dropbox app to the Trash. Open the Trash and select Empty in the upper-right hand corner of the window. Click Empty again to confirm the deletion.

To access your Dropbox folders now simply open up File Explorer and you'll see it in the side bar on the left. You'll only see folders and files you've chosen to sync, so don't be alarmed if it. I am NOT sharing photos, videos, etc. Between Mac and Win7, but this folder showed up where Dropbox should be. But I can't write to it in Win7 (it says I need permission to do that), and I don't know where it is in Mac.

If a proper Dropbox configuration is found but Path Finder isn’t linked yet, the Dropbox preferences look like in the picture below: In the example above, the Dropbox root folder path is /Users/milke/Dropbox. You can click the Link button to establish a link (just like you could’ve done from the alert on start-up).

Go directly to the Dropbox folder’s default location

By default, the Dropbox folder is located in your user folder on your computer’s hard drive. To go straight to the Dropbox folder’s default location, follow the instructions for your operating system below:

Linux

  1. Open a terminal and type cd ~/Dropbox.

macOS

  1. Open Finder and select Go to folder... from the Go menu.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, type ~/Dropbox/ and then press the return key.

Windows

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Type %HOMEPATH%/Dropbox into the address bar.

Note: If you’ve connected a personal and work Dropbox account, you'll need to specify which Dropbox folder you're trying to reach. For example:

  • ~/Dropbox (Personal)
  • ~/Dropbox (Acme Inc)

Create a shortcut to the Dropbox folder on your computer

For easier access to the Dropbox folder on your computer, you can create a shortcut. To do so:

  1. Go directly to the Dropbox folder’s location.
  2. Right-click the Dropbox folder.
  3. Click Make Alias (or Make Link on Linux).

Your shortcut will appear with alias appended to the name of the file. You can move the shortcut to the location you’d like to store it in.
