Matcaps from 2.79 better than 2.8?
Jayanam writes: In this video tutorial I show you how I setup Blender 2.79 to use the Grease Pencil for 2d painting and animations. In future videos I will go more in depth about this feature. The basic (un-textured) Blender material is uniform across each face of an object (although the various pixels of each face of the object may appear differently because of lighting effects). However, different faces of the object may use different materials (see Multiple Materials). In Blender, materials can (optionally) have associated textures. Blender is an extremely powerful, cross-platform 3D graphic tool. Version: 2.79 Size: 83.8MB Date Added: Sep 12, 2017 License: Open-Source Languages: English Publisher: Blender Foundation. This tutorial will walk a new user of blender through the basics of setting up a mesh for rendering using Cycles using only free assets available online. The tutorial can be followed along with blender 2.79 on my website. Feel free to ask me questions and give feedback on the tutorial by tweeting me @robb5300 or leaving a comment on my website. If it doesn't work there may be something you have changed in your render settings. Try doing the Quick Smoke method on a new document and see if it works. I still have much learn about blender myself so I can't help you there, sorry. There shouldn't be any issues with GPU rendering in 2.79. Good luck, Hope I helped, BFB.
Since Blender 2.8 there is a whole new collection of matcaps, sadly leaving behind some of the tried-and-true matcaps from 2.79. The good news is that we can easily get the old matcaps into 2.8 or 2.9. Matcaps are sleek to look at but they can also be extremely useful for surface analysis. I think all the new matcaps fall far short in that regard. Even the new zebra stripe matcap doesn’t do quite as well as the old reflective red matcap when it comes to pointing out even the most minor flaws. Another advantage the red matcap has over the stripes is that you can keep it enabled while modeling without going blind.
